El Celler de Can Roca AT THE DOORS OF TASTE
The history of this place overflows with such values as passion, tradition and family. These values are very present for Joan, Josep and Jordi, the three brothers who have applied them for more than 30 years to their management of El Celler de Can Roca, one of the world’s best restaurants, located in the medieval city of Girona, northern Spain.
The qualities each of them inherited and their ability to work together have given them made-to-measure roles in this ‘mystical’ restaurant. So we find Joan as a chef, Jordi as a pâtissier, and Josep as a sommelier. Each carries out his role as an authentic and undisputed expert.
Together the Roca brothers have created a sacred temple of food whose roots are deeply influenced by the cuisine of their homeland, Catalonia. Food served at El Celler de Can Roca uses ingredients typical of the region which are given a French touch and then presented as real works of art.
Works of art, in fact, which aim to play on the diners’ senses of sight, smell and touch, and which are nothing other than the result of the technical ability and passion of those who provide them.
It hardly needs saying, but amongst numerous international awards the restaurant boasts three Michelin stars and, twice over, first place in the legendary ranking The World’s Best 50 Restaurants.
So it should not surprise anyone that the average waiting time for a booking is in excess of a year.
