Eden Rock ICON OF THE ANTILLESS

Saint-Barthélemy, more commonly known as St. Barths, the jewel of the Antilles and named after his brother Bartolomeo by Christopher Columbus when he discovered it, is probably one of the most exclusive destinations in the West Indies. And the Eden Rock is probably one of the most exclusive hotels on the island. It’s certainly the most iconic.

Often numbered amongst the most beautiful hotels in the world, it was built in the early 1950s by the famous aviator, Rémy de Haenen, and has since then welcomed the main characters of the international jet set.

Standing on a rocky promontory overlooking a coral reef, the hotel is located in one of the most suggestive bays on the island, that of Saint Jean. Amongst the 34 suites, some on the rocky headland and others facing onto the wonderful beach, the Villa Rockstar, whose 1,500 square metres make it one of the largest and most exclusive suites in the world, is definitely worthy of note.

Surprising also is the On the Rocks restaurant which, managed by the renowned French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and possessing both a breathtaking view and superb cuisine, is an essential stop for all gourmets on the island.

In 1995 the Eden Rock was purchased by the English Matthews family, which owns it today, and in 2014 it entered the Oetker Collection, the well-known and exclusive German group operating in the hotel business. This union has enabled it to continue perpetuating that legendary aura which has enveloped it since its inception.
